UPDATE: The two individuals that were on the run have been apprehended by police at a hotel/motel in the GTA area (Greater Toronto Area).
First discovered on February 19, 2025 – Authorities are searching for two escaped inmates from Beaver Creek Institution’s minimum-security unit after they were found missing during the 6:30 p.m. count.
The two individuals, Jay Sedore, 70, and Michael Karas, 68, were unaccounted for at the time of the routine check.
Sedore, who stands 170 cm (5’7”) tall and weighs 70 kg (155 lbs), has brown hair, brown eyes, and a fair complexion. He is currently serving an indeterminate sentence for first-degree murder.
Karas, measuring 178 cm (5’10”) in height and weighing 76 kg (178 lbs), has grey hair, brown eyes, and a fair complexion. He is serving a 15-year, 6-month, and 10-day sentence for robbery, forcible confinement, and using an imitation firearm.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is working alongside the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to locate the two men as quickly as possible. Authorities urge anyone with information on their whereabouts to contact the OPP immediately.
CSC has launched an internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape and has provided law enforcement with all available details to assist in the apprehension of the offenders.
