Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for southern Ontario, warning of severe winds that could reach or exceed 100 km/h, along with potential bursts of snow creating hazardous conditions. The advisory is in effect through this evening as a powerful cold front moves through the region.

Affected Areas

The warning applies to the following regions:

Simcoe - Delhi - Norfolk

Dunnville - Caledonia - Haldimand

Belleville - Quinte West - Eastern Northumberland County

Cobourg - Colborne - Western Northumberland County

Kingston - Odessa - Frontenac Islands

Napanee - Consecon

Picton - Sandbanks Park

Brockville - Prescott

Gananoque - Mallorytown

Cornwall - Lancaster

Morrisburg - Long Sault

City of Hamilton

St. Catharines - Grimsby - Northern Niagara Region

Niagara Falls - Welland - Southern Niagara Region

Potential Impacts

Residents in these areas should prepare for:

Strong Winds: Gusts up to or exceeding 100 km/h could uproot trees, damage structures, and create flying debris.

Power Outages: High winds may cause disruptions to power lines and services.

Snow Bursts: Sudden heavy snow combined with strong winds could lead to whiteout conditions, reduced visibility, and slippery roads.

Temperature Drop: A sharp decrease in temperature is expected, potentially creating icy surfaces and increasing the risk of frostbite.

Safety Recommendations

To minimize risks, Environment Canada advises residents to:

Secure loose objects outdoors to prevent damage or injury.

Avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas experiencing high winds or snow squalls.

Prepare for power outages by keeping flashlights, batteries, and emergency supplies readily available.

Monitor local weather updates and warnings.

Report severe weather conditions to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or on social media using the hashtag #ONStorm.

Staying Prepared

As winds intensify and snow bursts sweep through southern Ontario, residents are encouraged to prioritize safety and remain indoors when possible. Monitor weather updates closely and plan ahead to mitigate potential disruptions caused by these extreme conditions.
