Key Weather Risks and Safety Advice
Whiteout Conditions:
Snow squalls create sudden, near-total loss of visibility, making travel extremely hazardous, especially in open areas and on highways.
Avoid non-essential travel during active squalls, as whiteouts can develop rapidly without warning.
Timing:
Snow squall warnings and weather advisories will remain in effect until January 29th, 2025. Some areas may experience lingering effects into the afternoon.
Safety Measures:
For Drivers:
Delay travel where possible. If you must drive, slow down and maintain extra distance between vehicles.
Ensure your vehicle is equipped with winter tires and an emergency kit (including blankets, water, and a flashlight).
Watch for updated road conditions through Ontario 511.
For Outdoor Activities:
Bundle up to avoid frostbite in extreme cold regions like Attawapiskat, Big Trout Lake, and Peawanuck.
Limit time outdoors and check for frostbite signs, particularly on exposed skin.
