Madoc Township, ON - A counterfeit money operation has been dismantled following a joint investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit and Central Hastings Detachment.
The investigation began on Tuesday, September 10, when a suspicious vehicle was spotted parked on Crookston Road. Upon further investigation, one individual was arrested on an outstanding warrant, and a search of the vehicle uncovered counterfeit cash along with equipment used to produce it.
This led to the arrest of a second individual.
A subsequent search warrant executed at a residence on Cooper Road on Wednesday, September 11, yielded additional counterfeit cash and materials. The total value of the counterfeit money seized is estimated to be in the thousands of dollars.
Lisa Dudgeon and Ryan Baxter, both of Madoc Township, have been charged with making and possessing counterfeit money. Baxter has also been charged with breaching a recognizance.
The accused are scheduled to appear in court on Friday, September 13.
Businesses in the area are encouraged to contact the Central Hastings OPP if they suspect they have received counterfeit cash.
