Campbellford and the Trent Hills Community Bid Farewell to YMCA Outdoor Pool

In Campbellford, a beloved community landmark is making way for progress as the YMCA outdoor pool faces demolition. For decades, this pool has been a summer staple for the town, offering a place for families to cool off, kids to learn to swim, and friends to gather. Now, as the machinery moves in, many in the community are reflecting on the memories made there and the gap its absence will leave.

“I grew up swimming here,” recalls one Campbellford resident. “It’s hard to imagine summer without it. So many of us spent our childhoods here, making friends, playing games, and just enjoying being outside. It’ll definitely be missed.”

The YMCA pool has long been more than just a swimming hole—it’s been a social hub, hosting everything from swim lessons and lifeguard training to birthday parties and community events. Its loss is deeply felt by many who have fond memories of the long summer days spent by the water.

Yet, as the town says goodbye to the old, it is also looking forward to the new. The pool's closure is making way for the Sunny Life Centre, a modern facility set to open just south of Campbellford on Seymour Quarry Road. This state-of-the-art complex will feature an indoor pool, fitness centre, multi-purpose rooms, and year-round programming designed to cater to all ages and interests in the Trent Hills municipality.

“There’s definitely some sadness about the pool coming down, but I’m really excited for the Sunny Life Centre,” says another local. “We’ll have so much more to do. It’s not just about summer anymore; we’ll have access to recreation all year.”

The new Sunny Life Centre promises to breathe fresh life into the community, offering expanded facilities and programs that go beyond what the old pool could provide. While the outdoor pool was a seasonal attraction, the new centre will allow Campbellford residents to stay active and engaged throughout the year, regardless of the weather.

“This new centre is going to be a huge benefit for the town,” says a community member. “The pool had its charm, but it was only available in the summer. The Sunny Life Centre will give us more options, whether it’s swimming in winter, fitness classes, or community events.”

As the town prepares to say goodbye to a piece of its history, there’s a sense of hope and anticipation for what’s to come. The demolition of the YMCA outdoor pool may be bittersweet, but the future of Campbellford’s recreation is looking brighter than ever with the arrival of the Sunny Life Centre on Seymour Quarry Road.

“It’s tough to let go of something that’s been part of our lives for so long,” reflects a long-time resident. “But change is part of life, and I think this new centre will give our community even more opportunities to connect and grow.”
